Baby Clothing: Plan before you buy
If you want to buy baby clothing for your newborn or as a gift, take note of a few facts. Babies typically have sensitive skin, and so the clothing must be comfortable and soft. Bright colors are also a necessity, to ensure that the baby feels great wearing the clothes. Keep the following guidelines in your mind when you are looking to buy clothing for a little bundle of joy.
- Natural fabric - Clothing for babies should essentially be made of natural fibers that allow the skin to breathe. The fabric should be absorbent as well, because the baby will frequently wet his/her clothes. Cotton is the best choice of fabric here. Go for natural cotton though; mercerized cotton can cause skin allergies in some babies. Cotton clothes will be easy to wash, and will be gentle on the baby's soft skin. If the baby is around a year old, you can opt for other non-allergenic natural fibers as well. Synthetic fibers are best avoided till the baby is at least 3 years old.
- Colorful and vibrant - If the baby is newborn, stay away from very bright colors. Instead, opt for soothing colors, such as white, beige, pink, light blue, etc. Once the baby is more than a year old, go for bright colors, like red, blue, yellow, orange, green, etc. Look for clothing with pictures printed on those. Even if the baby cannot see the pictures himself/herself, clothing of this kind will make the baby look absolutely adorable.
-
Proper sizes - This is a very important criterion, as a growing baby will quickly outgrow his/her clothes. Keep this point in mind when you shop for baby clothing. The best option is to carry a set of clothes from the baby's present wardrobe, to match the size when purchasing clothes. A baby may not be able to wear the same clothing for more than a few months. So, it makes sense to buy clothes that are a little larger than the baby's correct size.
-
Machine-washable - This is a very important point to consider. If your baby wets his/her clothes for umpteen times in a day, washing those can be quite a chore. Machine-washable clothes are like a boon in this case.
Buying clothes for the baby should not be a difficult task. If proper planning is done beforehand, this should be a very relaxing and enjoyable family activity.
