Infant baby clothing: Learn before you shop

Infants have very sensitive skin and need to wear comfortable, supple clothing. Buying clothes for an infant baby can be quite a challenge. Infant baby clothes need to be comfortable, anti-allergic, absorbent, flexible, and definitely made of either natural fibers, or non-allergenic synthetic fibers. Thankfully, most popular brands out there take care of these requirements when producing clothes for infants. Vast ranges of clothes of varying designs are available for infants nowadays. With varied fabric types, colors, knitting styles, and designs, there is no end of varieties of infant baby clothes available.

The first thing to consider when choosing infant baby outfits is the type of fabric that the outfit will be made of. Several choices are available here, each with its pros and cons. Well-spun cotton, cotton flannel, and brushed cotton are great because these will let the baby’s skin to ‘breathe’, and will soak up sweat and drool. However, it can be difficult to get stains off these clothes, so remember to get these in dark colors. Merino wool is another good material, for its insulating property. Merino wool is prepared by natural methods without using any chemicals. It keeps the infant’s body at a constant temperature, and is also easy to wash. Outfits made of Merino wool are not colored with any synthetic dyes, and are thus safe for infants. Among synthetic fibers, Lycra, polyester, and faux fur are good as materials for infant baby wear. Lycra is stretchable to a great extent. Polyester is well known for its weather-proof property. Faux fur is a synthetic fur that does not cause allergies in infants. Outfits made of these materials are good for infants.

Once you have decided on the fabric, it is time to move on to the type of infant baby clothing you wish to purchase. Choose clothing with buttons in the front. These can be put on the baby without pulling it over his/her head. This will be more comfortable for the baby and will also be easy to take off when necessary. Buy crotch snaps; these make changing diapers very easy. Onesies are also great for infants. These loose-fitting, one-piece suits are ideal as sleepwear. Don’t forget blankets either; on cold nights, blankets made of faux fur or Merino wool can be great for keeping infants warm.

Shopping for infant baby wear can be a very enjoyable activity. Nothing is more satisfying than to see an infant sleep soundly all night, or play happily with his/her parents. Clothes do play an important role in either case, so choose wisely.
